EMPOWERING GHANA’S FUTURE: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE INAUGURAL NUGS GHANA EDUCATION CONFERENCE

On March 18, 2024, the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) hosted its inaugural NUGS Education Conference at the CCB Auditorium, KNUST-Kumasi. Themed “The Role of Education in National Transformation and Employment,” the conference convened a diverse array of speakers and stakeholders to discuss the critical intersection of education, employability skills, and Ghana’s future.

The Chairman of the occasion, Otumfuo Assinhene, Nana Akuoko, underscored the pivotal role of education in shaping Ghana’s future, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with the skills needed for national development. The Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, also addressed the conference virtually, lauding NUGS for its advocacy efforts and reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing quality education for all Ghanaian students.

A highlight of the conference was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Nana Kwadwo Jantuah from Multimedia, featuring prominent speakers such as Prof. Edward Appiah (Director-General NaCCA), Dr. Ohene Gyan (Deputy Director, NSS), Mr. Robin Todd (Executive Director, T-TEL), and Mr. Nuhu Bayorba Mahama (CEO, SLTF). The panelists offered valuable insights into the current state of education in Ghana and strategies for enhancing student employability.

The conference also marked the official launch of the NUGS media platform, showcasing innovative STEM projects from Senior High Schools. Additionally, attendees were treated to captivating performances by the Kumasi Academy Cadet Band, Cultural Trope, and others, celebrating Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and artistic talent.

NUGS extends its gratitude to all guest speakers, students, and stakeholders for their contributions in making the event a resounding success, setting a strong foundation for future editions of the NUGS Education Conference.
