NUGS EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO THE GOV’T THROUGH THE EDUCATION MINISTER FOR EXPEDITED STUDENT LOAN AND TEACHER TRAININEE ALLOWANCE PAYMENTS.

The NUGS President in a press conference earlier today May 31, 2024, spoke about the results and response from the education ministry and other stakeholders after the press conference held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 pertaining to the unpaid stipends for students in Morocco.


NUGS has then extended a heartfelt gratitude to the government of Ghana for it’s swift response to their calls for action. The President of the Union, Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel also commended the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Adutwum for his role in fast tracking the payment of student loans and teacher trainee allowances.

 

According to the President, “ this breakthrough is a result of consistent advocacy and collaborative efforts aimed at ending timely financial support for students across the country. The SLTF has already disbursed GHS35 million. An additional GHS25 million remains to be cleared. GHS5 million will be disbursed into the account of beneficiaries. The remaining GHS 20 million will be disbursed exactly two weeks from today ,on June 14, 2024 thanks to the education minister”. The president stated.
Students who submitted their forms yesterday, May 30, 2024, will receive their disbursement. This comes at the back of a press conference held on Wednesday May 29, 2024 by the union highlighting the urgent issues affecting Ghanaian students particularly those in Morroco and challenges surrounding students disbursement. Addressing the media in a press conference today at the NUGS Secretariat in Accra, President for the union, Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel disclosed the outcome of their meeting with the education minister and CEO of the student Loan Trust fund. Mr. Nuhu Baryobo Mahama.
Notably in the case of teacher trainee allowance, he disclosed that a total amount of 58,617 teacher trainees have been cleared for payment and there fore calling on all principals who have not yet forwarded the data of their students to do so promptly to ensure clearance payment. The NUGS President again added that, the union has been assured of GH27million, ready to settle the first two months of the four month arrears on Monday June 3,2024.
