LEADERSHIP RETREAT PROGRAMME

NUGS organised a three-day Leadership retreat and training programme at the University of Ghana Legon from January 6-9 2023.
The purpose of the programme was to provide necessary training and technical support that helps shape and equip the Staff of the Union in understanding how to manage the student front.

On the first day, a session was facilitated by Dr. Mary Ashun, the principal of Ghana International School (GIS) who spoke on strategic planning and performance management.

The second day of the retreat had a series of training led by a variety of facilitators who were vested in the fields of discussion.
Ing. Antwi Bosiako Deputy Director General of CTVET held a session with the Union on how to manage projects in the education sector.

Attendees present were taken through Partnerships and Global Positioning. This was taken by Dr. Kingsley Agyemang registrar at SCHOLSEC.

The evening session of the second day was quite an interesting one. Successful leaders have made it through effective communication. The Union was honoured to have Mr. Jefferson Sackey, the Deputy Director of Communications at the office of the Presidency who spoke on the theme: Public Relations, Brands and Communication.

The last meeting for the day was held by the President of the Union together with members of the union to discuss and develop thematic areas to be looked at by the union in the 2022/23 NUGS working year. The areas outlined included Education, Gender, Welfare, Climate Justice, and a host of others.

The last day of the retreat was held at the Legon Botanical Gardens which was a Leadership class led by Dr. K.B Tandoh the Deputy Director General of Ghana Education Service at the LEGON BOTANICAL GARDEN.
Attendees learned a lot from this class by means of modeling and practice which is geared toward shaping their leadership careers and styles.

The final session of the retreat was facilitated by Dr. Richard Ampofo who was later joined by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy speaking on the theme “Building tomorrow”
The retreat was crowned with a cocktail session dubbed “Like Stars on Earth” which saw the attendance of prominent personalities such as His Excellency Tamàs Endre Feher, the Ambassador of Hungary to Ghana, Her Excellency Louisa Atta-Agyemang (PRESIDENT DUA), ISAAC Jay Hyde, a former NUGS President and the current Deputy Youth organizer for the ruling NPP.

The retreat ended on Monday 9th January 2023.
